The Ethiopian Bible is the oldest and most complete bible on Earth, and it is an ancient original. This bible was written 800 years before the King James Version (KJV). Bible means “book”. Christianity is said to have been introduced to Ethiopia in the 4th Century, and this church is one of the oldest Christian churches on Earth.

The Ethiopian Bible was written in Ge’ezs which is an ancient dead language of Ethiopia. This bible contains 84 books compared to the 66 books of the KJV. Some history of the KJV Bible is discussed in “The Larger Spiritual Order & Universal Scheme of Things-Simplified”, Chapter 4, The Sacred Journey of Ancient Religions. The Ethiopian Bible has been saved by a British charity named Ethiopian Heritage Fund, which has since located at a remote Ethiopian monastery, Garima Monastery, named for the monk Abba Garima, discussed below.

PORTRAIT IN GARIMA 2  The bible is beautifully illustrated, the colors are still vivid (as shown in this illustration of Evangelist Mark in the Garima 2 bible), and thanks to the Ethiopian Heritage Fund, have been preserved. The pages had been crudely stitched together in a restoration of the 1960s, and some of the pages would not even turn and are falling to pieces. The Gospels have been kept high and dry which has helped preserve them all these years. They are kept in dark spaces so the colors look fresh. Most of the experts did the work at no cost. It has survived Muslim and Italian invasions, and a fire of the 1930s which destroyed the monastery’s church.

These Christian relics are located in an area that can only be reached by hiking and climbing to remote monasteries as roads are limited in these mountainous regions. There are two volumes which date from the same time. The second is written in a different hand from the first volume. Both contain illustrations.

Saint Abba Garima, a monk, discovered the books. The monastery has since been named Garima Monastery. It is located near Adwa in the north of the country which is in the Tigray region at 7,000 feet. The monk arrived between 330-650 AD and some give the date at 494 AD.

WANGER  DR. ANKE WANGER of the Berlin University in Germany researched this Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church (see THE-733) and the council on the internet. The council would meet once or twice a year unless there was a war or a natural calamity. They would meet to settle doctrinal and canonical issues for the councils. Major printings of these issues are from 1918, 1929,  1947 (1953), and 1980. See her evaluations on the internet at THE-733 8 b.

HAILE SELASSIE  Emperor Haile Selassie I was Regent from 1916-1930. Selassie was exiled from 1936-1941 and was overthrown in 1975. He was born Tafari Makonnen in 1892 and left this Earth in 1975. His reign was cut short by a soviet-backed military regime. His Imperial Majesty was assassinated 8/27/1975 at the National Palace by Lt. Col. Daniel Asfaw. Selassie is known for modernizing his country and establishing what is now The African Union. Emperor Selassie was active in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church, and being a religious man, started printing decisions of the church councils.

Of interest, there is a story of the eunuch in the KJV bible who converted to Christianity. He was a gentile and guarded women’s living quarters. Because he guarded women’s quarters, he was castrated which meant his testicles were removed (also called gonads). In women, the ovaries are called gonads also. They are the sex organs.

The eunuch was then sent to Ethiopia to preach that there was one God but that Jesus the Christ had already appeared in human flesh. In Ethiopia, he was referred to as Simeon Backus and was known as a black Jew.

For spiritual information, the gonads are the first energy centers of the human body, and the color of this center is red. A person may see this color when meditating. In the beginning, when learning to meditate, for cleansing the energy centers, a tunnel and a red dot at the end of the tunnel may be seen. It is different for each individual.

Why are copies of the Ethiopian Bible not translated to modern languages and made widely available to the general public. I’m certain many many would buy it to read and compare to the King James Version.
